"Painted with oil on canvas or on wood panel, these images are related to the impulse of adventure, the uncertainty and the fear to a life changing experience. The sea has always been a  presence in my life, a  symbol  of  things  to  come and go  and  also  of  hope. When I  was a kid, from  the  terrace roof of our house, nearby Havana Bay, we  used to  see  the  boats leave the bay towards the open sea, a fascinating event then that always left a question in the air and  the imagination.
The first ideas of this series where sketched before my trip to Barcelona in 2008 and did the paintings while living there. The several visits I paid to the city's Museum of Navigation were very inspiring and charged my spirit in many ways. In some of  these  works,  a section of land, perhaps of certainty, appears  in  counterpoint  to  fabulous  elements, of the kind one could find in old maps and cartographies of the  world. I  also use fantastic visions related to the exploration of the unknown. For me these pieces reconcile the plane of the metaphor and that of the experience".
